What Worship is to Me

by Chyna Robertson

Let everything that hath breath praise the LORD. Praise ye the LORD. Psalm 150:6

Although I am not a perfect person, I have a father that loves me just the same. Like many, I have participated in the mundane things this world offers, but I have also endured the heartache that comes with temporary happiness. Whenever I have felt overwhelmed by those lies, I am reminded through worship that I am not alone in this fight. It takes great vulnerability to wholeheartedly surrender to Jesus. To expose and entrust our hearts to someone we cannot see can be scary, until we realize who Jesus is, and that his goals for our life are not for evil but to give us a hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11). Worship is one of the only things we can do to show our thanks and love to our Savior. As Christians we cannot be so caught up in ourselves, because we were born again to stand out in this world. When we worship, things shift in the spirit realm. Sometimes we gain a new perspective, or we simply experience communion with God. He is so unpredictable in the ways he chooses to commune with us, so when we worship, we open the door to hear that still, small voice. I am not an expert translator, nor do I have the gift of interpretation, but like the lady who touched Jesus’ cloak and received healing; I can be whole by simply praising Him for who He is and the things He has done, with the hope of a full future. Worship means different things to different people. Worship involves many things, not just singing and music, but a life surrendered unto Him; one that glorifies Him.

Whether it’s kneeling and closing your eyes to talk with Jesus, raising your hands and bawling your eyes out, or just singing a worship song; it’s all between you and God. Don’t let the idea of being comfortable where you are, or fear, overcome your heart of worship. Conviction is not a forgiving feeling. Next time you think of worshiping Jesus, try to just close your eyes, focus solely on Him, and see what happens. Don’t worry about anyone around you. The only thing that stands between you and God is your own self. Oh man, if I was able to explain and help you see how it feels to be totally overcome by the love and righteousness of God…. I have no effect on the darkness other than to expel it with my ability to sing of His greatness because the light always overcomes the darkest nights.

For we are not fighting against flesh-and- blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in heavenly places. Ephesians 6:12
